This forum is for forum members to record their play, upload videos, and have others comment on them.

Uploading

There is an FTP account set up for this. To upload a video:
1) You need an FTP client (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... p_id=21558)
2) Connect to ftp.mikethicke.com [Private msg Mike for account details]
3) Upload your file. The file names are case-sensitive and spaces or special characters will make life difficult. To be safe stick to lowercase letters and numbers.
4) Make a post in the forum directing people to your video. The url will be http://www.mikethicke.com/videos/<yourfilenamehere>

Making

The most popular program is camtasia. I use SnagIt. They are pretty much the same but SnagIt is simpler. http://www.techsmith.com/download/trials.asp

You should set it to record at 1-2 frames per second.
Video/Audio compression? (Will add later).

Try to do a running commentary as you go. It helps people watching to understand your thought process.

Keep videos somewhere under an hour - the files get really big and fewer people will watch all the way through if they are longer.

Makeing without codec madness
Producing a video in Camtasia:

1. Produce As...
-pick SWF - Macromedia Flash movie

2. Options
-Colors: 16-bit Color
-Frame Rate: 1
-Use JPEG compression: ~36%
-Encode audio
-mp3
-mono 16kbits/s

3. Hit next until done.

This will create 4 files in a directory when its done. Make sure you upload the directory itself when you post the video. This will create the same directory with the files in it.

I've heard good things of this free one as well, but haven't had a chance to try it yet:
